Exodus 20:8-11

The Ten Commandments set out the principles in which the people of God would flourish and become moulded into the holy nation they had been called to be. The fourth commandment instructs the people to remember the Sabbath and to keep it holy. The Sabbath is the pinnacle of the week; a chance to recharge from what has gone before and to reassess our priorities for what is to come. The reason the church gathers together on the traditional Sabbath is to take part in this time of renewal together in the Presence of the living God who blessed the day. Again though, we must be the ones to remember the Sabbath and we are the ones who keep it holy. We have a choice to enter into this day of renewal and a choice to turn our backs on it.
