Entering Rest

Hebrews 4:9-11

The writer of Hebrews offers us another glimpse of what the Sabbath is about and of what it offers us a glimpse of. The author of the book tells us of those who have entered God’s rest and stopped their work as God did on the seventh day of creation. This rest is the freedom we have in Christ and that, as we believe in Him and take hold of His promises and live in His light, we begin to walk in that rest. It is not the perfect rest of the kingdom of God in its fullness but a glimpse of the life to come. The Sabbath reminds us of who God is yesterday, today and forever and of the freedom we have in Jesus who died so we could know life in its fulness.
