As I enter my second year in the North Shields and Whitley Bay Circuit serving Cullercoats Methodist Church and now the Fisherman’s Mission, I have been reflecting on where God has brought me and where he is leading.  As a family we have been amazingly blessed through this year and as Naomi has said many times it has been the greatest year despite the difficulties.

As I have reflected I felt that the beginning of my second year needed to focus on mission.  The topic is vast and complicated and encompasses numerous other large topics; worship, evangelism, service, and hospitality.  I can’t ignore the sense that this is where God wants me to focus.

As I have begun to reflect on this subject I have had a number of texts that have come in and out of focus.  Some have been given to me by others in passing conversation.  Others have come as I have read and studied over the past weeks and months.

This booklet looks at these verses and reflects on how they can speak to us about God’s mission.  I offer it to you not as a finished product but as a starting place so that we can learn God’s truth together.  With it, we can reflect on where he is calling us to and what he wants us to do.

The Booklet

This booklet is rooted in four texts that influence the reflections that follow.  These four texts have occupied my mind over the past few months and have come to me from various sources.  The first is a word of prophecy or foresight given to some members of the church just under two years ago.  Its words have been prayed over and mentioned in many meetings and are important for us as a church.

The next three are all found in scripture, two in the Old Testament and one in the New Testament.  The first reading comes from Isaiah and formed the basis for our Lent series called I am doing a new thing.  The next comes from another book from the major prophets, Ezekiel. Finally the New Testament verses come from the final book of the Bible, Revelation.  You can read these four texts in the pages that follow and then a number of reflections that delve into some of the key themes presented to us in them.

Each reflection is accompanied with questions you can use yourself or in a group.  There are also some prayer pointers that I hope will help lead you into ways you can pray into some of these themes.
